Saint Joseph Red 1996 - Cave de Tain
- Geographical location: Northern Côtes du Rhône, right bank of the Rhône
- Grape variety: Syrah
- Terroir : Terraced hillside vineyards; granite soils
- Climate : Continental with Mediterranean influence
- Vinification : Manual harvest. Careful selection of grapes according to origin and ripeness; the entire harvest is destemmed. Fermentation in stainless steel or concrete thermo-regulated vats. Vatting time of 15 to 20 days with gentle extraction methods (pumping over and delestage).
- Ageing: 50% in vats to preserve the freshness of the fruit; 50% in oak barrels to refine the structure, volume and length of the wine.
- Tasting notes: Colour: deep red with purple hues. Concentrated and complex aromas: notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite and white pepper. In the mouth: Morello cherry aromas are complemented by notes of liquorice and light tobacco. The tannins are silky and the finish, although warm, is enhanced by the tension characteristic of granitic soils.
