Brut Vintage 2013 - Louis Roederer
95/100 Parker
Conservation: 2023 - 2048
By William Kelley in 2021: "Roederer's just-released 2013 Brut Vintage shows brightly, unfolding in the glass with a youthful, reserved but nascently complex bouquet of crisp yellow orchard fruit, citrus zest, fresh bread and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, this is a tightly wound, elegantly muscled Champagne whose fruity core is built around incisive acidity. Flawless and complete, it is an overachieving vintage that puts many prestige vintages to shame. Built to age, it will reward patience."
- Vintage: The year 2013 is characterised by a particularly late cycle! The interminable winter gave way to a very shy spring. It was indeed necessary to wait until the first days of July to record full flowering in the vineyard... It had been a long time since we had seen this in Champagne! The summer was fortunately radiant with record-breaking sunshine and low rainfall, very favourable to the ripening of the Pinots Noirs and Chardonnays. The October harvest took place again in the cool autumn weather and produced elegant wines with a strong freshness... great "classics".
- In short: A fruity, spicy and mineral champagne.
- The dosage: It is 9 g/l.
- Tasting notes: Golden yellow with soft amber tints. Very luminous and calm effervescence originating all over the surface of the glass. Subtle bouquet showing a certain reserve on the first nose: there are springtime notes of fresh citrus fruit (more lemon than lemon) combined with warmer, almost smoky mineral notes. Then come notes of oak barrel ageing in oak barrels with lightly toasted almond notes.
