Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Caillerets 2014 - Blain Gagnard
Domaine Blain Gagnard
94/100 Wine Spectator
2017 Tasting Note: "A lush, harmonious release, showing aromas and flavors of white flowers, lemon curd, peach and vanilla. The good cut pairs well with the texture, while the finish evokes key lime pie. Drink now through 2027." - BS
Les Caillerets is located at the southern end of the village and is above Les Champs Gain at an altitude between 250 and 280 meters. The name "Caillerets" refers to the limestone soil found here, which contributes to the typical elegance and finesse of the wines of this site, and comes from vines planted between 1954 and 1987.
Tasting notes: The old vines bring density and concentration to this white premier cru which is also renowned for its elegance. It has aromas and flavors of apples and white peaches, with firm acidity and layered minerality. Ageing in 30% new barrels brings notes of vanilla and toasted notes.
Food and wine pairing: White Burgundy, with its rich texture and grilled flavors, goes well with white fish and shellfish, and its naturally high acidity can counterbalance cream-based sauces. It lends itself well to grilled fish, starchy foods, butter and roasted nuts.
- Soil composition: Limestone
- Grape variety : 100% Chardonnay
