Château Margaux 2004
Margaux - First Grand Cru Rated
Tasting of the Grand Vin du Château Margaux vintage 2004 by Neal Martin in 2016
"The Château Margaux 2004 has always been a promising wine and here, served blind against the Premiers Crus, it has finally proved that patience is needed when it comes to such wines. It has an exquisite bouquet with brilliant delineation, aromas of redcurrant, raspberry coulis, cold stone (almost like flint) with pencil and cedar giving it an air of Pauillac. The palate is extremely well balanced with a supple start, almost perfect acidity and a surprisingly citric undercurrent that brings so much freshness and tension. Without having the weight and power of 2000, 2005 or 2009, for example, it sails in harmony and you will be seduced by its charms, which is perhaps rare among the first growths of this vintage. It's excellent."
Drink it or keep it in the cellar for decades.
