Chateauneuf du Pape 2010 Les Hauts Lieux - Domaine de la Vieille Julienne
95/100 Wine Spectator
Tasting Notes: "Densely layered but racy in feel, with a strong graphite spine supporting rich raspberry compote, blackberry coulis and steeped plum notes. Lovely anise and black tea details add more nuance to the finish. The well-embedded grip suggests this should cellar nicely. Best from 2016 through 2030. — JM"
It is the highest and most sheltered part of the slope. The marly soils and shallower safres covered with quartzite pebbles are particularly suitable for mourvèdre. It is also the coolest and later part of the slope and under the frequent firmness of the tannins, the wines are vigorous and of great elegance.
Surface area: 4.5 ha
Grape varieties: grenache noir, mourvèdre, cinsault and counoise.
Average age of the vines: 70 years
