Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2016 in Magnum - Reserve Auguste Favier - St Prefert
Isabel Ferrando
97/100 Parker & 97/100 Wine Spectator
Cellaring potential: 2018 - 2035
By Joe Czerwinski in 2018: "A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Cinsault, the 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve Auguste Favier displays enchanting floral aromas, intoxicating raspberry and cherry fruit, and exciting notes of Swiss cocoa. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it nevertheless comes across as fresh and almost light. The use of grape stalks (the wine is all whole grapes) and a high proportion of Cinsault certainly contributed to the soaring aromas and fresh feel of this wine. It is a fascinating wine."
This wine is produced from Quartier des Serres as well. There are 82% Grenache, 10% Vieux Cinsault and 8% Syrah. No destemming and 18 months of maturing as well. An elegant and spicy profile for this great wine of the southern Rhône. It will also be more favourable to tasting in its early years than the Collection Charles Giraud but it is also a great wine for laying down that you can let develop in the cellar for 2 decades, or even more depending on the vintage.
