Châteauneuf du Pape blanc 2019 - Domaine de Marcoux
WHITE: The Châteauneuf du Pape appellation produces about 6% white wine, the same applies to the Marcoux estate. The authorised grape varieties are Roussanne, Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Clairette and Picardan.
WINEMAKING & BREEDING: Our Châteauneuf du pape blanc is mainly produced on 2 parcels: 0h50 of Roussanne, called "les esqueirons" planted in 1987. This parcel is located on the western slope of the village hillside. 0h35 of bourboulenc lieu- dit " les bousquets " on the western slope of the village hillside. In 2020 a third parcel of clairettes, about 20 ares in size, will come into production. We also have a few vines of clairettes and old white grenaches scattered in other plots, which, depending on the year, put their grain of salt in the blend. Harvesting is done by hand, in 50 kg crates, taking care not to crush the grapes. The bunches are pressed and the must is put into stainless steel vats. It is then racked (an operation which consists of removing solid debris from the pulp, earthy particles, etc.). Alcoholic fermentation can finally start with a control of temperatures around 17°. Once the alcoholic fermentation is finished we rack the coarse lees and the maturing is done on fine lees in stainless steel vats and demi-muid. No malolactic fermentation for the whites. The wine is bottled about 7 months later.
GROWING MODE: Vineyard cultivated in organic farming (ECOCERT control).
VARIETIES: 69% Roussanne, 29% Bourboulence, 2% Clairette and Grenache Blanc.
GROUND : Clay, colluvium, Cretaceous limestone from the Barrémian period.
