When to drink this wine ? 2025 - 2041
Tasted by William Kelleyen 2024 : "The Roc de Cambes 2021 exhibits aromas of black fruits, orange zest, roast, smoked meat and liquorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and lively palate that proves to be, as I observed from barrel, a particularly elegant interpretation of this superb clay-limestone terroir in the Côtes de Bourg."
Presentation of the vineyard: 12.5 hectares of the vineyard is planted with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The terroir is mainly composed of limestone and clay soils, similar to those found on the right bank of Bordeaux, particularly in Saint-Émilion. The vineyard is south-southwest facing on the top of a plateau, with a view of the river. The vines are old. In fact, many of the vines used for Roc de Cambes are nearly 50 years old, which is impressive. They have vines that are over 50 years old, which adds to the concentration, character and complexity of the wines.
Roc de Cambes is vinified in traditional concrete vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. The wine is then matured in an average of 50% new French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months before bottling. The vines are much further up the slopes and closer to the Gironde River, which creates a cooler, more clayey terroir.
