Why is it exceptional?

• Since the phylloxera crisis (late 19th century), almost all European vines have been grafted onto American rootstocks that are resistant to the insect.

• A franc de pied vine = 100% original roots, not grafted → this is only possible in a few soils where phylloxera cannot survive (very sandy soils, gravel, etc.).

Impact on the wine

Producers often believe that:

• the wine shows a purer aromatic expression,

• a more original taste of the grape variety,

• great finesse, sometimes more delicacy than power.
