Direct from the estate - Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau
Astéroïde: The emblem of Domaine Dagueneau
Astéroïde is undoubtedly the most prestigious vintage of the Didier Dagueneau estate, now produced by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau. Renowned for its exceptional quality and unique character, this white wine represents the pinnacle of Loire Sauvignon Blanc, combining finesse, depth, and aromatic intensity. Each bottle is the expression of a meticulously cultivated terroir and ultra-precise winemaking, true to Didier Dagueneau's innovative spirit.
A powerful and complex aromatic bouquet
On the nose, Astéroïde reveals an exceptionally rich aromatic palette: candied citrus, white flowers, flint notes, and subtle smoky hints. The wine's characteristic minerality combines with an elegant complexity, hinting at a structured and vibrant palate. This wine captures attention from the first whiff and continues to unfold throughout the tasting, offering an unforgettable olfactory experience.
On the palate, Astéroïde impresses with its perfect balance of tension, freshness, and breadth. Its texture is silky yet vibrant, with a long, mouthwatering finish that reflects the authenticity of the terroir. This exceptional wine pairs wonderfully with refined seafood, fine fish, or can be savored on its own, like a work of art to be contemplated, revealing all the expertise and audacity of the Dagueneau family.
2020: An exceptional vintage
The 2020 vintage perfectly reflects the meticulous work of Louis Benjamin Dagueneau on his Pouilly-Fumé plots, combining rigorous viticultural practices with respect for the terroir. Asteroid 2020 is a refined and powerful wine, which captures the intensity and purity of Loire Sauvignon at its peak.
“Franc de pied” means that the vine is planted on its own roots, without an American rootstock.
This is extremely rare today.
Why is it exceptional?
-
Since the phylloxera crisis (late 19th century), almost all European vines have been grafted onto American rootstocks that are resistant to the insect.
-
A franc de pied vine = 100% original roots, not grafted → this is only possible in a few soils where phylloxera cannot survive (very sandy soils, gravel, etc.).
Impact on the wine
Producers often believe that:
-
the wine shows a purer aromatic expression,
-
a more original taste of the grape variety,
-
great finesse, sometimes more delicacy than power.
And for Astéroïde 2020 – Didier Dagueneau?
This is a mythical micro-cuvée made from ungrafted Sauvignon Blanc, extremely rare and produced in tiny quantities — hence its near-cult status.
