Appellation Anjou Contrôlée
Focus on the 2022 Vintage
The 2022 vintage at Domaine Belargus is distinguished by its remarkable balance, despite the year’s hot, sun-drenched conditions. Thanks to the *Bonnes Blanches* terroir’s inherent ability to retain freshness—bolstered by the deep root systems of the old vines—the wine marries opulent, captivating fruit ripeness with an intact mineral tension. The result is a cuvée of great aromatic generosity—characterized by yellow-fleshed fruits, fresh honey, and hints of sweet spice—underpinned by a vibrant structure and a crystalline finish, promising an aging potential of at least 15 to 20 years.
About the Cuvée:
*Clos des Bonnes Blanches* is one of the iconic *lieux-dits* (named vineyard sites) in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, cultivated parcel-by-parcel by generations of local vignerons. Situated on a gentle, north-facing slope, these cool soils rest upon talcose schist, overlaid with clay and white quartz pebbles. This late-ripening terroir gives rise to delicate, introspective wines. They reveal floral aromas alongside notes of menthol and fennel, all carried by a profound mineral tension. They are renowned for their exceptional aging potential.
• The *Clos des Bonnes Blanches* cuvée from Domaine Belargus is an exceptional dry white wine, sourced from a legendary 1.68-hectare parcel in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, in the heart of "Anjou Noir" (Black Anjou). Nestled on a plateau overlooking the Layon river, this unique terroir owes its name to a subsoil of dark schist, covered by a layer of white quartz and rounded pebbles. Managed biodynamically under the guidance of Ivan Massonnat, the plot receives meticulous care: hand-harvesting with multiple passes, gentle pressing, fermentation using indigenous yeasts, and a long, measured aging process in oak barrels. This 100% Chenin Blanc expresses, with remarkable purity, the intersection of the chalky tension of quartz and the mineral depth of schist.
• On the palate, Clos des Bonnes Blanches reveals a profile of great elegance. The nose opens with aromas of ripe citrus, candied pear, white flowers, and verbena, all wrapped in subtle smoky and stony nuances. On the palate, the wine displays an ample, fleshy, and spherical texture, immediately brought into focus by a precise, noble acidity. The finish—saline and exceptionally long—leaves a vibrant, mouth-watering sensation. A superb gastronomic wine, it pairs wonderfully with fine shellfish, pan-seared scallops, or a sea bass fillet served with a verbena cream sauce.
