Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2024 Lucile Avril - Domaine Durieu
The "Lucile Avril" cuvée is the flagship white wine of Domaine Durieu, a select wine resulting from a meticulous blend where exacting standards and tradition are fully expressed. Predominantly composed of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, this cuvée originates from terroirs of rolled pebbles and clay that absorb the warmth of the Rhône sun, which is then bestowed upon the vines. To achieve maximum complexity, a portion of the harvest is vinified and aged with precision in oak barrels. From the first sip, the nose reveals remarkable intensity and great elegance: it unfolds with luscious notes of ripe pear, apricot, and acacia honey, subtly enveloped by hints of toasted brioche, vanilla, and fresh almond.
On the palate, "Lucile Avril" offers a masterful experience, characterized by an opulent, rich, and profoundly fleshy texture. The attack is round and enveloping, but the wine's richness is perfectly controlled and balanced by a superb underlying freshness that prevents any heaviness. The smooth texture coats the palate and lingers in an incredibly persistent finish, tinged with mineral notes and sweet spices. Made for haute cuisine and boasting excellent aging potential (up to 8 to 10 years), this great white wine will be a wonderful accompaniment to lobster with beurre blanc sauce, sweetbreads with porcini mushrooms, capon with morels, or a well-aged sheep's cheese.
