Saumur White 2017 Clos des Carmes - Monopole - Guiberteau
Cellaring : Drink from 2025 or cellar until 2045.
Cuvée presentation : Guiberteau's monopoly, the Saumur Brézé Clos des Carmes comes from a two to six hectare south-facing plot planted in 2004 and 2005 on clay and silt. Aged for 18 months on fine lees in barrels (new and one to two year old oak).
Tasting notes: A yellow/golden colour. A very intense, chalky bouquet with aromas of toasted almonds, tropical fruits, discreet oak and fascinating, even iron-rich flint. Silky and immediately rich but elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, round and complex Chenin, very fine and savoury, with fine tannins and a long, dense and invigorating but also settled and textured finish. A lovely Saumur bourguignon, textured, with refreshing lemon and vibrant mineral notes, fine tannins and a very long, intense and taut finish with lovely toast flavours.
