The estate tells you about it: "The Cuvée Classique de Tempier becomes the cuvée "Lulu & Lucien": In 2020, Mrs. Lucie Peyraud, more generally known as Lulu, left us just at the end of the harvest at 103 years old. She joined her husband Lucien in the Paradise of the winegrowers. As a token of our gratitude to these two historical figures of the estate (and the region!) the family decided to rename our basic cuvée often called "Classique" to "Lulu & Lucien" for the release of the 2020 vintage reds. It is likely that this name will continue to be used in the years to come. In memory of Lulu and Lucien!"

THE VINTAGE

The signature cuvee of the estate blends the discreet power of Bandol with the elegance and finesse of Tempier. A complexity resulting from the blending of the different terroirs of the estate and the variety of its clay-limestone soils, from the calcareous and sandy marls (165 to 90 Ma), to the Trias (200 Ma).

COMPOSITION

Mourvèdre (~75%), complemented by Grenache and Cinsault, and in smaller proportions by Carignon and Syrah.

Average age of the vines : 35-40 years

VINIFICATION

Grapes sorted at the plot and at the winery; destemmed, crushed and put in the winery for a 3 to 4 weeks fermentation with indigenous yeasts

MATURING

In tuns for 18 months minimum before bottling.

Preservation : From 4 to 10-15 years, to best perceive the complexity of the cuvée, mixing fruity and tertiary notes (undergrowth, tobacco, old leather...). Depending on the vintage, it can be kept longer.
