The vineyard :
At only a few dozen meters but a little higher than the Clos Vougeot, the terroir is totally different: the soil is quite deep, not very stony, even if the Bajocian marl is outcropping in some places. The vines, planted on a surface of 34 ares, are mostly about sixty years old.
Tasting of the Echezeaux Grand Cru :
During the maturing process, which is more or less the same as that of Clos Vougeot, the differences are clearly visible. The Echezeaux are characterized by their tenderness and fullness. They are often open, expressive and early. They reveal a great suppleness, supported by a persistence in the mouth that seems like velvet. Aromas of raspberry and wild rose characterize it in its youth. Their maturity of ageing is always earlier than that of the Clos Vougeot.
Food and wine pairing:
Halfway between a Clos Vougeot and a Chambolle Musigny, it will excel on a filet mignon, a roast pigeon, a guinea fowl or a duck with truffles.
