Château Lafite Rothschild 1983
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Rated
93/100 Parker
- Maturity: 1997 - 2030
- By Robert Parker in 1998: "Finally, the 1983 Lafite is beginning to lose its tannin. The wine has a deep ruby/garnet colour with only a slight lightening at the edge. The nose with its heady perfume of lead pencil, toast, red and black fruits, minerals and toasted herbs is provocative. On the palate, this wine has considerable body for a Lafite, a lot of power, and a fleshy, rich and soft mid-palate. Long, elegant, plump and surprisingly fleshy. Drink now until 2030."
TERROIR
The vineyard comprises three main areas: the slopes around the Château, the plateau of Carruades adjoining to the west and a 4.5 ha plot in the neighbouring commune of Saint-Estèphe. The surface area is 112 ha, and is made up of fine, deep gravel, mixed with aeolian sands on a tertiary limestone subsoil, well drained and well exposed.
SERVICE
Château Lafite Rothschild should be decanted for 2 hours or more. It is best served between 16 and 18°C. This will allow the wine to soften and open up its flavour. For wines that have not been aged in barrels, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been aged in oak barrels.
FOOD AND WINE PAIRING
Château Lafite Rothschild can be served with aperitifs, starters, main courses or cheeses.
