Château Lafite Rothschild 1990
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Rated
96/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2014 - 2044
By Robert M. Parker in 2009: "Interestingly, a bottle of 1990 Lafite Rothschild that I pulled out of my cellar for a video blog on my website was still closed, tight, and even with extended decanting, did not show as much as I would have hoped. However, a bottle tasted in Seoul, Korea, last February was only a few points away from perfection. This amazing performance prompted me to pull another bottle from my cellar and follow it for two days. And sure enough, by the second day, the wine was roaring in the glass. The 1990 Lafite turned out to be much better than my initial assessment. Although it still possesses some firmness and behaves like a late adolescent in terms of evolution, it exhibits superb aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, black currants, and pencil shavings. These explosive aromas are followed by a full-bodied, fleshy wine that should peak in 5-8 years and last for another 25-30 years."
