Saint-Julien - 2ème Grand Cru Classé
95/100 by James Suckling
A vibrant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, with great aromatic purity. The nose reveals refined aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and crushed stone, enhanced by a captivating floral touch. On the palate, the texture is precise and elegant, with fine, polished tannins. The finish is fresh, fruity, almost creamy, carried by a beautiful tension.
An atypical blend, with a much higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon than usual – for a remarkable result.
A great wine, to be enjoyed from 2023.
Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc.
An already impressive wine, to be enjoyed from 2024.

Tasting notes:
This wine is renowned for its depth, concentration and elegance. The wine is full-bodied, rich and powerful. It has a fine tannic structure that allows it to age for many years. There are often aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry and liquorice. There may also be hints of tobacco, leather and oak, due to the ageing process in oak barrels. The wine has a velvety texture on the palate, with well-integrated tannins that give it a silky mouthfeel. The finish is generally long and complex, with lovely lingering flavours.
Wine and food pairing :
Château Léoville Barton is a powerful wine that goes well with rich, flavoursome dishes:
- It goes particularly well with grilled or roasted red meats, such as beef steak or leg of lamb.
- Aged cheeses, especially hard cheeses, can also be good companions for this wine.
- Duck or game dishes, prepared with rich sauces, can be an excellent option.
Serving temperature :
Château Léoville Barton should be served at an ideal serving temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius (60 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit). We recommend decanting before serving to allow the wine to air out and release all its aromas and flavour.
