Gevrey-Chambertin 2019 in Magnum - Louis jadot
Great Bourgogne estate
92/100 Wine Spectator
- When to drink it: Drink now to 2040.
- Tasting Notes: "A sumptuous, supple red, evoking flavors of black cherry, blackberry, violet, iron and spice. A dense matrix of tannins gives it structure, but it is also graceful. Fresh, graphite-tinged aftertaste."
Gevrey Chambertin is a commune located in the North of the Côte de Nuits. It has 26 Premier Crus and 8 Grand Crus.
The soils are calcareous with a good proportion of clayey marl giving the wines roundness and power as well as more or less depth.
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION
The grapes are harvested manually in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then carefully sorted by hand and destemmed. Maceration of the grapes takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are pumped over twice a day during the fermentation. The wine is aged for about 18 months in barrels from our cooperage, of which about a third are new.
