Product description
Bordeaux - Grand Cru classé de Margaux
TERROIR
The 40 hectare left bank vineyard of Château Marquis de Terme is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. This shows a slight change since the mid-1990s, with less Cabernet Sauvignon and more Merlot planted today. Cabernet Franc has also been removed from the vineyard.
The terroir consists of gravel, sand, limestone and clay soils. The vines are on average 30 years old. The vines are planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. Their best vineyard plots are located near the château, not far from Rauzan Segla. They also have plots in the commune of Cantenac and a little further south they have vines planted next to the Chateau dIssan.
LABEL
Starting with the 2013 vintage, Château Marquis de Terme began experimenting with organic farming on a small plot of vines. They now farm their vineyards using only, 100% organic vineyard management techniques, and were certified organic in 2017.
WINE MAKING
To produce the wine of Château Marquis de Terme, vinification takes place in large cement vats ranging in size from 80 hectolitres to 250 hectolitres. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vats.
The Château Marquis de Terme wine is aged in a combination of 33-50% new French oak barrels and a small number of 600 litre concrete Nomblot egg-shaped vats for an average of 18 months. Nomblot eggs, which are used for an average of 8% of production, have become popular due to their use in the Rhône Valley by Michel Chapoutier.
