Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Classé
WHEN TO DRINK THIS WINE?
This is a rare and old vintage of Mouton Rothschild. It matured decades ago. You can enjoy it today or collect it.
THE VINEYARD
The vineyard is planted on very deep gravel, with grape varieties typical of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). This proportion is not identical in the wine, as the blend varies according to the character of each vintage.
NOTATION
- 94/100 Wine Spectator & 94/100 James Suckling
- Cellaring: Drink now, mature vintage.
- Tasting notes by James Suckling : "Very smoky, with berry, coffee and tobacco aromas. Full-bodied, with polished, velvety tannins, lots of fruit and a cedary aftertaste. Better than the 2000 Mouton. This is a baby Mouton 1986. Solid and very, very fine. Lasts a long time on the palate." - JS
- Art and the label: For the label of Mouton Rothschild 2001, Bob Wilson chose to feature his friend Philippine in a symphony of colours, where the green of the vine and the gold of the sun blend with the chromatic range of the wine, from light red to deep purple.
