Product description
90/100 Wine Spectator
THE VINTAGE
Our red wines have a beautiful deep ruby colour with aromas of fresh fruit. They have a pleasant structure and a remarkable balance. An excellent vintage for laying down.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE APPELLATION
The name "Les Damodes" would refer to druidesses established in this place. This vine planted at altitude, on the border with Vosne-Romanée, allows us to produce a very mineral wine with little tannin. It is a feminine and silky wine.
Exposure: East
Soil: shallow hard limestone, marl
Grape variety : Pinot Noir
Area: 0 ha; 81 a; 48 ca - [2.01 Acres].
Year of planting: 1950, 1983, 1989
VINIFICATION & MATURING
The grapes are cut and sorted by hand. The proportions of destemming and whole harvest vary according to each vintage. A daily pigeage is carried out to extract from the skins of the grapes their colour, tannins and aromas. After 19 days of vatting, alcoholic fermentation is completed. The free-run wine is run off by gravity while a slow and gentle pressing of the marc allows us to obtain a press wine of great purity. For 16 months, our wines are aged in French oak barrels (of which 40 to 50% are new and 50 to 60% are 2-wine barrels) in our cellars at a natural and constant humidity and temperature. These barrels are selected for the finesse of their grain and their moderate toasting.
TASTING
Beautiful deep ruby colour. The expressive nose opens with aromas of black fruits, spices and toasted and roasted nuances. The attack on the palate is all finesse, the wine is elegant with mocha flavours and floral notes.
Serve with: Beef tartare, venison legs, cooked cheeses.
Temperature: 14°C to 16°C
Ageing potential: 7 to 12 years
