Pouilly Fuissé 2018 Les Ménétrières - Cuvée Hors Classe - Domaine Ferret
94/100 Parker
Maturity: 2023 - 2045
Comment by William Kelley on June 30, 2020: "Blending aromas of green pear, honeycomb, white flowers, fresh pastry and warm bread, Les Ménétrières 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé Hors-Classe Les Ménétrières is medium to full-bodied and fleshy but incisive, with a deep, layered core, fine concentration and a long, penetrating finish. It's a bit early, but it allows me to say that the best Ferret 2018, surpassing the Tournant de Pouilly. Once again, Audrey Braccini showed virtuosity to Doamien Ferret".
Grape Variety : Chardonnay
Situation : At the exit of the village of Fuissé, on the reverse side of Mont Pouilly in the middle of the slope, the vineyard covers an area of 80 ares and benefits from an eastern exposure.
Age of the vines : 3 planting campaigns followed one another from 1974 to 1999. The second one celebrated the bicentenary of the French revolution.
Soil: The deep, non-stony, clayey-silt soil is made up of residual clay. It presents calcareous and marly-limestone banks at depth. The upper part is very calcareous, not stony, coming from clear Dogger marls.
Vinification : Fermentation and maturing take place in barrels, 20% of which are new, 80% of which are for 1 to 3 wines for 10 months. The maturing continued in stainless steel vats, still with all their lees for another 8 months. On March 18, 2020, armed with patience and masks, we were able to bottle our beloved cuvée.
Tasting: The nose reveals a subtle woody and discreet white flesh fruit. After a beautiful attack, "Les Ménétrières" reveals a titillating roundness and stands out from other plot selections, as always, by its rare length.
Food and wine pairing : Because of its richness and balance, Les Ménétrières deserves to be associated with dishes of great delicacy such as a sole Meunière, a terrine of foie gras, a grilled lobster, a sea bass, a Bresse chicken with porcini mushrooms, but also cheeses such as Vacherin Mont d'Or, Saint-Marcellin or even a Saint-Maure.
