Gevrey Chambertin 2019 Vieilles Vignes - Faiveley
(89 - 91) / 100 Parker
By William Kelley in 2021: "Unfolding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, black currants, rich spice and loamy soil, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a full core of bright, concentrated fruit and a textured, enveloping profile. This elegant and indulgent wine can be drunk relatively young and can age for a few years in the cellar."
THE MILLENNIUM
2019 is a cool and balanced vintage characterised by extreme weather (frost, heatwave). The volumes are low but the quality is exceptional. The harvest began on Monday 9 September and ended on 21 September in the Côte de Nuits. The wines are charming, well balanced, fresh and straight. The tannins are fine and not very astringent. On the palate, they are fragrant. They express notes of juicy and sunny fruits as well as notes of spices.
CHARACTERISTIC OF THE APPELLATION
By a royal decree of Louis-Philippe, the term "Chambertin" is associated with the name of the village which officially becomes "Gevrey-Chambertin" in 1847. Our plot selection on old vines of more than thirty-five years old gives a wine with an exceptional aromatic intensity.

VINIFICATION & MATURING
The grapes are cut and sorted by hand. The proportions of de-stemming and whole grapes vary with each vintage. The grapes are punched down daily to extract their colour, tannins and aromas from the skins. After 19 days of vatting, the alcoholic fermentation is completed. The free-run wine is drained off by gravity, while a slow and gentle pressing of the marc produces a press wine of great purity. For 14 months, our wines are matured in French oak barrels (20 to 30% of which are new) in our cellars with a natural and constant hygrometry and temperature. The end of the maturing process is carried out in vats for 2 months.
