Saint Joseph Rouge 2024 - Yann Chave
From the estate
This Saint-Joseph from Yann Chave comes from a 2-hectare plot located in the lieu-dit "Les Pierres" in Tournon-sur-Rhône. Facing due south on granite soil, the approximately 30-year-old Syrah vines produce a wine that is sunny, elegant, and fresh. The estate has been farmed organically since the winemaker's arrival.
Winemaking is as natural as possible, without any additives. The grapes are destemmed and then worked only with gentle pump-overs to preserve the fruit's finesse. After four weeks of maceration, the wine is aged for one year in demi-muids and glass Wine Globes, before a further six months of rest in tanks.
The wine displays a ruby color with violet highlights and an inviting nose dominated by crisp red fruits, raspberry and redcurrant, enhanced by a subtle touch of spice. The palate is lively and elegant, supported by present but fine tannins, with a fresh, flavorful, and persistent finish with delicate vanilla notes.
At the table, this Saint-Joseph pairs perfectly with grilled meats, duck breast, or aged Mimolette cheese. Enjoyable now for its vibrant fruitiness, it will also age gracefully for 5 to 10 years, gaining in complexity and depth.
