Château Clos de Sarpe 2016
Grand cru de St Emilion
95/100 Parker
Drinking window: 2021-2045
"With a medium to deep garnet-purple color, the 2016 Clos de Sarpe (composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc) is initially a little closed, then opens up to reveal captivating aromas of Black Forest cake, Chinese five-spice, and cigar box, with hints of sandalwood, kirsch, rosehip tea, and pencil lead. Full-bodied, rich, and opulent on the palate, this wine is irresistibly seductive, with a velvety texture and remarkable freshness that enhances the luscious fruit aromas to a long, spicy finish." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Château Clos de Sarpe is a family-owned estate in the Saint-Émilion appellation, renowned for its limited production. and its traditional approach to winemaking. The vineyard is located on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, a particularly sought-after terroir that promotes concentration and complexity in its wines. The estate is now recognized for its powerful, authentic style, true to its terroir.
The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot, complemented by a proportion of Cabernet Franc. Deliberately low yields allow for highly concentrated grapes. Vinification and aging are carried out with care to preserve the expression of the fruit and the richness of the terroir, while also providing structure and aging potential.
