Cuvée Lopy (Vacqueyras – Domaine Le Sang des Cailloux)

Cuvée Lopy is the crown jewel of Domaine Le Sang des Cailloux, a benchmark estate within the Vacqueyras appellation in the southern Rhône Valley. Sourced from the estate’s oldest vineyard plots on the Garrigues plateau, the wine is produced using organic and biodynamic farming methods. It is crafted primarily from old-vine Grenache (80%), complemented by Syrah (20%). The terroir—characterized by red clay soils rich in rounded river stones—imparts a unique depth and minerality to the wine. On the palate, Cuvée Lopy stands out for its dense, velvety texture, structured by refined, high-quality tannins. It offers a highly complex aromatic profile, blending notes of very ripe black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant) with hints of *garrigue* (wild Mediterranean scrub), sweet spices, licorice, and leather. This is a serious, age-worthy wine—powerful yet elegant—perfectly suited to accompany fine cuts of red meat, herb-crusted lamb, or game.

In the 2024 vintage, Cuvée Lopy proves to be exceptionally well-balanced. The natural freshness of the year tempers the inherent richness and generosity of the Grenache, resulting in a wine with vibrant fruit and remarkable drinkability, all while maintaining its signature structural backbone. Already highly expressive in its youth—with intense aromas of fresh fruit and peony—this vintage possesses all the qualities needed to evolve beautifully in the cellar over the next 10 to 15 years.
