Volnay Clos des Santenots 1er cru Monopole 2015 - Jacques Prieur
92/100 Wine Spectator
2015 Exceptional sunshine!
The 2015 vintage benefited from quite exceptional climatic conditions with excess sunshine, very low rainfall and very high temperatures in June and July.
The strong luminosity and heat marked this vintage by the speed of its vegetative cycle and certain stages such as flowering at the beginning of June and veraison at the beginning of August were dazzling.
Harvesting began at the Domaine on September 3rd for the Chardonnays and September 7th for the Pinots Noirs.
2015 is once again an extremely early vintage and joins the years 2003, 2007 and 2011.
The first tastings show generous white wines and refined red wines.
GRAPE VARIETY & SURFACE AREA
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir with white juice on a plot of 1.19 hectares.
TERROIR
Situated in the heart of the Middle Santenots, on a brown soil, rich in manganese, resting on a hard limestone, rounded like pierced stones. Sloping ground: perfect natural drainage. Facing due east at mid-slope.
VINIFICATION & MATURING
The grapes are hand-picked, then sorted and completely destemmed. The vatting period lasted 20 days at controlled temperature in open wooden vats. We punch the cap twice a day during the active phase of alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is 100% complete. Maturing is 100% in oak barrels.
Duration of maturing: 18 months.
