ORIGIN
This little-known appellation, situated above Grands Crus such as Richebourg, benefits from an exceptional location. The high position of some parcels is expressed by toponyms in "mont". The shape, exposure and dimensions are noted by means of a wide variety of determinants: Les Petits Monts for their size.
CHARACTER OF THE WINE
Owing to the situation of the vineyard, Vosne Romanée premier cru "Les Petits Monts" is a wine of great complexity. With a discreet acidity and fine tannins, this wine is characterised by perfumes suggestive of ripe fruits and essence of flowers. Scents of woodland undergrowth and humus mingle with those of cherries in brandy and peony, later tending towards perfumes of leather and animals. Sometimes smoky, in the mouth it is ample, pure and velvety. Its finesse and elegance make it a very harmonious wine.
GASTRONOMY
Because of their finesse, typical velvety smoothness and delicate fragrance, these wines deserve a refined gastronomy, fine dishes from which marinades should be excluded. When it comes to game, it is best to roast it and prepare a sauce cooked separately. Game birds are more suitable, as are butcher's meat and poultry. The "Petits Monts" go well with Burgundy cheeses. The more full-bodied venations accept fairly old wines that have taken on a wild, animal or truffle flavour.
CELLARING
This intense and fine wine develops harmoniously between 5 and 7 years of age, and continues to mature for 8 years or more in great years.
SERVING
These wines are prepared for a temperature setting close to 15°C, which is favourable to the release of aromas and the good appreciation of flavours. We recommend serving them in fine, wide-sided glasses (balloon or tulip glasses) filled to a third or a quarter only.
