Riesling Heimbourg 2020 - Zind-Humbrecht
Turckheim - Domaine Zind-Humbecht - Wine from the property
Caution: The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit in the wooden boxes sold separately.
Sweetness index on the palate: 1, technically dry wine or tasting dry.
- Tasting: This beautiful wine comes from a south/southwest facing vineyard! The Heimbourg Riesling is pure, ripe and stony on the nose, with concentrated aromas of lemon and crushed stone. Dense, intense and zesty, this is a very elegant, juicy Riesling that needs a few years in the cellar to offer its full potential. It has a long, pure, saline finish with good structure. The acidity is ripe and perfectly integrated.
- Acquired alcohol: 12.8°.
- Aging potential: 2025-2040
- Average age of vines: Planted in 1994
- Terroir : Oligocene limestone with south-western exposure
The domain tells you about it : "The Riesling grape variety is located on the lower part of the place called Heimbourg de Turckheim. It is in fact the steepest part because the top of the hill, which is detached from the Vosges, is much more eroded. The first horizon of the soil, of low depth, is a siliceous calcareous marl. The roots quickly reach the Oligocene bedrock which contains a high proportion of active limestone. We find pebbles of Muschelkalk cemented in a strongly calcareous sandstone of red color, because rich in iron. It is a rather austere environment and we have to bring a lot of composted organic matter to make the soil less aggressive. The proximity of the bedrock considerably lowers the vigor of the vines, which explains the lower yields obtained on this terroir. This is probably one of the earliest vineyards in Alsace, but the cool winds from the valley and the cooler soil bring an incredible freshness to the wines. A drier climate in the summer also makes it easier today to control the development of noble rot, so the wines get drier and drier each year. Fermentation was actually relatively easy for this wine, the indigenous yeasts made for a dry wine in this vintage."
