Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi 2016 - Domaine Louis Latour
Maison Louis Latour
The Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi from Domaine Louis Latour is one of the most renowned Premier Cru wines in the Beaune appellation, in the Côte de Beaune. Located in the northern part of the appellation area, the Clos du Roi vineyard benefits from well-drained clay-limestone soils that promote the concentration and elegance of Pinot Noir, the sole grape variety used in this cuvée. The exposure and soil quality produce structured wines, often considered among the most powerful in Beaune.
On the nose, one finds typical aromas of ripe red fruits (cherry, raspberry), evolving towards more complex notes of undergrowth, sweet spices, and sometimes a slightly smoky touch with age. On the palate, the wine offers a beautiful tannic structure, both firm and silky, supported by a balanced freshness that extends the finish. Aging in oak barrels, expertly handled by Louis Latour, adds structure and depth without masking the fruit.
This is a wine for aging, capable of developing favorably for 10 to 15 years, or even longer depending on the vintage. It pairs perfectly with roasted red meats, duck breast, veal in sauce, or mature cheeses. Served at around 16–17°C, with a little aeration, it fully expresses the nobility and finesse of the great terroirs of Beaune.
