Product description
Presentation of the vintage: Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet includes the two villages that are the smallest of the Grands Crus of Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet with only 3.9 acres. The vineyard is entirely located in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet and lies directly south of Bâtard-Montrachet. The Criots is one of the smallest appellations in France and there are only a handful of producers who bottle it.
Tasting Notes: It is easy to assume that the Criots would have the same richness and weight as Bâtard, its next-door neighbor. In fact, Criots is the most delicate of the five Grands Crus in the neighborhood. Rather, it is a wine of perfume and delicacy, with a fine structure and intense minerality. It comes from vines planted between 1929 and 1979.
Food and wine pairing: White Burgundy, with its rich texture and grilled flavors, goes well with white fish and shellfish, and its naturally high acidity can counterbalance cream-based sauces. It lends itself well to grilled fish, starchy foods, butter and roasted nuts.
Soil composition: Limestone and clay with many small stones.
Average age of the vines: a mix of 30, 40 and 60 year-old vines.
Exposure: South
