Wine Tasting by William Kelley on April 30, 2019: "Fragrant aromas of berries, rose petals and cinnamon introduce the 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard, a medium-bodied, fleshy wine with powdery tannins, a juicy core of fruit and a long, almost extravagantly perfumed finish. It would appear that this wine is quite strongly marked by whole cluster fermentation, and it is indeed coming along nicely in its distinctive style."

Soil : Clay-limestone, very stony

Location : Chanson owns 3 ha of this climat located in the heart of the Premiers Crus of Santenay, a small village south of the Côte de Beaune. The parcel is located on the top of the hillside and is spread over two levels. The soil with a high proportion of pebbles gives the wine a beautiful minerality that highlights the typicity of Pinot Noir.

Vintage 2016: After a cold and rainy winter followed by an episode of frost in April, mild and rainy weather took over at the beginning of May and contributed to a slightly delayed flowering, causing millerandage in many parcels (small grapes). In June, the hot and dry summer lasted for a long time and the harvest began at the end of September under a beautiful sun. Vinification: After a two-week fermentation in whole bunches, the red wines are aged in oak barrels in our 15th century cellars for 15 to 18 months, with a moderate proportion of new barrels.

Tasting : Deep ruby color. Very fresh aromas of ripe red fruits (cherry, plum) with spicy notes. Slight vanilla note. Complex and well balanced. Elegant texture with well integrated tannins. Good persistence on the fruit.

Food pairing : Mild cheeses, roasted meats, poultry in sauce
