Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2016 - Raveneau
The Climat "Valmur": It occupies a recess between Grenouilles and Les Clos. Here, it is not the exposure that counts, since this valley exposes its steep slopes both to the south and to the north. The difference lies in the microclimate, the valley being closed, with a little draught. This turns it into a furnace in the summer and an ice-house in the winter. The wines of Valmur are massive, not necessarily ultra-aromatic, but endowed with a remarkable presence: there is more clay in the soil than in Vaudésir.
Domaine Raveneau
"The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is a rich, exotic rendition of this great bottling, exhibiting aromas of honeyed peach, crisp apricot and sweet spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, powerful and layered, with a deep and ample mid-palate, concluding with a long, saline finish. It's a textural, gourmand Valmur that I suspect may resemble the 2001 vintage when it reaches maturity." William Kelley in 2018: 94+/100.
To drink from 2020 to 2035.
