Cuvée Fosse-Grely 2022 - Nature - Ruppert-Leroy
From the estate
- blend 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay
The estate is located in Essoyes in the Aube region (Côte des Bar), run by Bénédicte and Emmanuel Leroy. They practice natural viticulture: organic/biodynamic, plot-by-plot vinification, use of indigenous yeasts, no filtration or fining, and very little or no added sulfur depending on the vintage.
- Blend: 50% Pinot Noir / 50% Chardonnay from the “La Fosse” plot.
- Terroir: Clay-limestone soils with a majority of red clay, south/southeast exposure.
- Vinification & Aging: Alcoholic fermentation in barrels and demi-muids for approximately 9 months, natural malolactic fermentation, aging on lees in the bottle for 18-20 months.
- Dosage: Brut Nature (no sugar added after disgorgement).
- Sulfites: Absent or very low quantity.
Appearance: Golden color, fine effervescence.
Nose: Aromas of yellow fruits (peach, plum), citrus, floral and pastry notes, and possible exotic nuances.
Palate: Rich attack, round with beautiful tension. Flavors of citrus, vine peach, plum, mint, and licorice. A distinct minerality, a long finish with subtle bitter notes.
Aging and Serving Potential
- Alcohol: approximately 12%.
- Serving temperature: 8-10°C to express freshness, or 10-12°C for greater finesse.
- Age: 5 to 10 years, or even a little longer, for optimal development.
