Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru "Morgeot" 2017 - Blain Gagnard
93/100 WS
-
Presentation of the wine : In the not so distant past, Chassagne-Montrachet produced much more red wine than white wine. Today, the village still produces about 50% red wine and Morgeot continues to be a very good source of Burgundy red wine. The white wines from the heavier soils of Morgeot tend to be rich, heavy and generous in fruit, a premier cru that can be enjoyed young.
-
Tasting Notes: Morgeot is a white wine of volume, richness and texture with aromas and flavors of ripe yellow apple, peach and lemon. Sometimes a note of red fruit is found in Morgeot, such as red apple or berry. Ageing in a 30% new Burgundy room brings notes of vanilla and toast.
-
Food pairing: White Burgundy, with its rich texture and toasted flavors, goes well with white fish and shellfish, and its naturally high acidity can counterbalance cream-based sauces. Oak lends itself well to grilled fish, starchy foods, butter and roasted nuts.
