Morgon Côte du Py 2015 - Château des Jacques
Beautiful Beaujolais estate
93+/100 Parker
Aging potential: 2020 - 2035
By William Kelley in 2018: "The 2015 Morgon Côte du Py is a deep, brooding wine that unfolds in the glass with notes of spicy dark fruits, baked chocolate and rich soil nuances. On the palate, it's full-bodied, super concentrated and powerful, with beautiful acidity, fine-grained tannins and a rich but vibrant finish. While typically big and imposing, it is a very compelling interpretation of the dry and sweet 2015 vintage, and looks like it could generously repay cellaring."
PRESENTATION OF THE CUVÉE
- Characteristics : With the Côte de Brouilly, this climate is the symbol of the diorite terroirs, a bluish rock resulting from an underwater volcanism and older than the one that led to the formation of pink granite.
- Vinification : Hand picked in small boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The fermentation is punctuated by punching down or pumping over, depending on the nature of the vintage.
- Aging and bottling: The wines are aged for 10 months in one, two and new oak barrels in our old 17th century cellar. The wood comes from the forests of the Nivernais, the Limousin and the Allier.
- Tasting / Pairings : The Côte du Py takes full advantage of the richer blue rock than the neighboring granite: its aromatic richness (white pepper, blackberry,...) and its density are obvious. Its great complexity enhances many delicate dishes.
- Conservation : Two to three years are necessary for this wine to start to deliver itself. Its potential life is several decades.
