Moulin-à-Vent 2016 La Roche - Château des Jacques
Beautiful Beaujolais estate
91/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2018 - 2026
By William Kelley in 2018: "A subtle touch of oak spice mingles with notes of raspberry, cherry and plum, presenting the deep, medium-bodied, full-bodied, layered and round 2016 Moulin-à-Vent La Roche, with fine-grained tannins and good acidity. It is quite approachable and expressive, no doubt a function of the vintage."
PRESENTATION OF THE CUVÉE
- Characteristics : As its name indicates, this terroir - located under the Moulin à Vent which gave its name to the appellation - rests directly on the granite bedrock formed 320 million years ago. Only the Gamay grape is able to flourish on these soils, which offer no reserves and no respite during the summer.
- Vinification : Hand picked in small boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The fermentation is punctuated by punching down or pumping over, depending on the nature of the vintage.
- Aging and bottling: The wines are aged for 10 months in one, two and new oak barrels in our old 17th century cellar. The wood comes from the forests of the Nivernais, the Limousin and the Allier.
- Tasting / Pairings : Particularly tense, "La Roche" is a wine that is often vertical and precise; it therefore happily accompanies great gastronomic compositions.
- Preservation : Two to three years are necessary for this wine to begin to deliver itself. Its potential life is several decades. Vintages such as 2009, 2005, 1999, 1985 or 1976 can be enjoyed today.
