Château Mont Redon 2017 - Châteauneuf du Pape
92/100 Wine Spectator - 95/100 James Suckling
Cellaring: Best from 2021 to 2035.
Tasted in 2020: "Dark and vinous to the touch, with macerated plum and blackberry forming the core, which evolves slowly, carried by silky but substantial tannins and supported by warm woody details of anise, fruitcake and toasted apple through the finish."- JM
- Terroir: The appellation area is located on the left bank of the Rhône, between Orange and Avignon. The terroir is characterised by large rolled pebbles that store the heat of the generous Provencal sun during the day and release it at night. The height of the pebbles is 2 metres; underneath, there is a bank of clay where the roots of the vines draw their water needs: an exceptional terroir.
- Grape varieties: Grenache / Syrah / Mourvèdre / Cinsault / Counoise / Muscardin / Vaccarèse
- Climate : Mediterranean type with particularly hot summers. The Mistral wind blows away the humidity, thus ensuring favourable conditions for the cultivation of the vines.
- Harvesting : It is compulsory to harvest by hand, allowing a selective sorting of the grapes. We attach great importance to this point, which is of prime importance in terms of quality.
- Vinification and maturing: After complete de-stemming, vinification by punching down of the cap for fifteen to twenty days of maceration to ensure maximum extraction of tannins and colouring matter. Once the malolactic fermentation has been completed, half of the blend is aged in 228-litre Burgundy barrels, the other half being kept in vats. After a selection of our best cuvées for bottling at the estate, the wines are grouped together in a single blend. The bottling takes place about 18 months after the harvest. Once bottled, the wines are left to rest for at least 4 to 6 months in our cellars before being shipped.
- Tasting: The red Châteauneuf wines can be appreciated from the second year with a dominant of red fruits. They reach their fullness between the 5th and 8th year, but can be kept for 10 years or more depending on the vintage and storage conditions.
