Chateauneuf du Pape 2020 Cuvée Imperiale - Domaine Raymond Usseglio
Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils
(96 - 98) /100 Parker
When to drink this wine? 2023 - 2040
Tasted by Joe Czerwinski in 2022: "Tasted from the concrete tank, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Impériale is reassuringly formal, with complex herbal nuances layered with purple raspberries and ripe black cherries. Powerful, silky and plush, with soft tannins cushioning the long finish, this wine should be a real beauty to enjoy over the next two decades."
90 % GRENACHE
10% BLEND OF OLD GRAPE VARIETIES
The Cuvée Imperiale is the wine made from the oldest vines on the estate, most of which are a hundred years old (planted in 1901-1902). The yields are extremely low (16-18hl/ha) guaranteeing a dense and deep wine. The old Grenache vines bring their finesse and elegance to this wine, which can be aged for decades. If you wish to taste this wine before its first 2-3 years of ageing, you should decant it. Unfiltered wine, please excuse a possible natural deposit that is beneficial to the aging of the wine.
