Domaine de La Solitude "Barberini" 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape
Grape varieties: 45 % Grenache, 45 % Syrah and 10 % Mourvèdre.
Cuvée Barberini Red - This is a tribute to our ancestors the Barberini family, produced when the vintage allows it from a special selection of our estate, well known for its concentration and opulence. The modern style of winemaking, with optimization of extraction but without excess, gives a powerful wine with silky tannins. Depending on the vintage, part of it is more or less aged 16 months in barrels, then during blending, will spend 6 months in vats for a perfect integration. An impressive wine, with great purity and density, can be served preferably for tasting between 4 and 15 years at least after the vintage.
Yield: 30 hl/ha
Agriculture: sustainable
Vinification: The grenaches for this wine come from our best plots of old vines on the famous terroirs of rolled pebbles.
After a manual selection of the best grapes on a sorting table, the grapes are crushed and de-stemmed before falling by gravity into our fermentation vats.
A long maceration and gentle extractions enable us to obtain these powerful yet supple characteristics of our wines.
About 60% of this wine is aged in oak barrels and demi-muids for 18 months.
Food and wine pairing : This wine still in its youth goes best with red meats such as a nice prime rib of beef but also, for example, a lamb tagine with apricot, a duck breast with cherries, then after about ten years a hare "à la royale".
Tasting note: A delicate nose, combining aromas of tobacco, violet, cedar and milk chocolate. The palate is velvety with liquorice and cherry aromas, with a lingering chocolate finish.
