Product description
Châteauneuf du pape
Vignoble Brunier
94/100 Parker & 94/100 WS
Drink Date : 2019 - 2025
Reviewed by Joe Czerwinski on the 30th Aug 2019
"A blend of 40% Clairette and 30% each Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, from vines in la Crau that average 50 years old, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc continues the excellent run for this wine. It's zesty, lime-ridden and briny on the nose, medium to full-bodied and a bit silky on the palate, but it's so fresh, citrusy and vibrant on the finish that it comes across as crisp and refreshing. I've been gradually extending the drinking windows on white Châteauneufs, as I become convinced that many of them age better than I've given them credit for in the past."
GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION: stony plateau of the Crau River
(south-east of the appellation. Intersection of the villages of Bédarrides,
Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Courthézon).
SURFACE AREA: 6 hectares.
SOIL AND SUBSOIL: Miocene molasses (from 1 to 1.5 m deep).
resting on a thick layer of clay with a high pebble content, and covered
by the mantle of alpine diluvium, commonly known as "rolled pebbles".
VARIETIES: clairette 40 %, white grenache 25 %, roussane 25 %,
bourboulenc 10%.
AGE OF THE VINEYARDS: 45 years old on average.
