Chateau Clement Pichon 2015
Cru Bourgeois Supérieur - Haut-Medoc
90/100 James Suckling
A few vegetal and floral nuances mingle with light notes of foliage and red fruit, offering a full, fruity, and refreshing palate. Drink now or cellar.
Château Clément-Pichon is a historic estate located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, northwest of Bordeaux. The estate is easily recognizable by its Renaissance-style château surrounded by a moat. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois, it produces wines that combine the traditional character of the Médoc with a modern approach to viticulture and winemaking.
The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This combination results in balanced wines, blending the roundness and fruitiness of Merlot with the structure and aging potential of Cabernet Sauvignon. Aging in oak barrels imparts subtle woody notes that enhance the expression of the terroir.
On the palate, Château Clément-Pichon typically offers aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, accompanied by hints of spice, cedar, and sometimes cocoa. The palate is supple and harmonious, with well-integrated tannins and lovely freshness. Approachable relatively young yet capable of aging for several years in the cellar, it pairs perfectly with red meats, stews, and mature cheeses.
