La Réserve de Malartic 2015
Grand cru ranked of Pessac-Leognan
92/100 James Suckling
"Striking aromas of violet and blueberry. Some vegetal notes as well. On the palate, there's light, creamy oak, red fruit pudding flavors, and supple tannins on the finish."
The wine:
La Réserve de Malartic is the second wine of the prestigious Château Malartic-Lagravière, located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Crafted with the same care as the grand vin, it comes from a rigorous selection of parcels and lots, offering a more approachable and earlier expression of the estate's style.
The blend varies from vintage to vintage, but is generally based on the emblematic Bordeaux grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, sometimes complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The aging process, more restrained than that of the grand vin, highlights the fruit expression while preserving the characteristic elegance of Malartic-Lagravière.
On the palate, La Réserve de Malartic seduces with its aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, cherry, and plum, enhanced by subtle notes of sweet spices and fine oak. This supple, balanced, and smooth wine, with its fine tannins, can be enjoyed relatively young. It pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, dishes with sauces, or aged cheeses, and is an excellent introduction to the estate's style.
