Clos du Mont-Olivet 2020 - La Cuvée du Papet
Chateauneuf du Pape - Joseph Sabon
Rating : 96/100 James Suckling
- The 2020 vintage : Exceptionally early, it marks the return of fresher wines with great balance. The first plots were harvested at the beginning of September and continued serenely until mid-October. The grapes, very healthy, required little sorting. The alcoholic fermentations took place without any problems.
- Ageing potential : To be drunk from 2025 to 2040+.
- Tasting notes: The 2020 reds have an elegant suppleness that makes them particularly suitable to be enjoyed in their youth, without altering their ageing potential. 2020 is certainly a vintage full of balance, combining freshness and greed.
- Blend : 90% Grenache - 5% Mourvèdre - 5% Syrah
- Terroir : The flagship of the Domaine, this wine is made from a selection of the best plots of land located on the Montalivet, La Crau and Bois Dauphin sites. Dominated by very old Grenache vines. The soils are mostly sandy, with some pebbles.
- Vinification : The vats are filled by gravity with a destemming of about 60%. The three grape varieties are fermented together in order to create a harmony from the moment of vatting. The work of the wines is done without seeking a maximum extraction but by privileging more the elegance and the freshness. If during the maturing process, which starts in concrete tanks, other tanks prove interesting, the initial blend can be modified. For this vintage, the maturation continued in tuns, half-muids and barrels of several wines. Partial de-stemming of the harvest
- Service : 15 °C
- Maceration : 40 days
- Fermentation : 100 % in concrete tanks
- Maturation : 70% in tuns - 10% in steel vats - 8% in demi-muid - 7% in clay jars and 5% in barrels of several wines.
