Do you know the domaine Julien?

Recently, Gérard's son, Étienne Julien, took control of the estate. As the fourth generation at the head of the estate, Etienne is ushering in a new era of quality. As soon as he took over, Etienne started to improve things, starting with the vineyards. He adopted a more organic approach and now follows a strict "lutte raisonnée" methodology to control diseases and pests. Yields are now carefully controlled and sorting is done both in the vineyard and in the cellar before the grapes are destemmed. After a few days of maceration with minimal punching down, the wines are vinified and aged in 228L barrels until the spring of the following year before bottling. For the Côtes-de-Nuits-Villages and Nuits-St-Georges, the wines are generally aged in 30% new barrels, while the Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru and Echezeaux will see 50% new barrels.

The town of Comblanchien is still better known for its fine wines than for its quarries, but this is about to change. And that's thanks to Etienne Julien.

Here is a young and brilliant winemaker (his first vintage was 2012). We can only recommend you to buy his wines now! This is an up and coming domaine in Burgundy and the wines will be extremely sought after before long. Joyful, energetic and lively, these Pinot Noirs are a real treat for hedonists.
