Located in the northern part of the appellation, bordering Beaune, the “Pézerolles” Premier Cru produces one of the most refined and elegant wines in Pommard. Masterfully vinified by Maison Dominique Laurent, this cuvée comes from old vines flourishing in iron-rich, highly stony, clay-limestone soil. Benefiting from meticulous winemaking—incorporating a portion of whole clusters—and bespoke aging in handcrafted oak barrels (“magic casks”), this wine possesses a distinguished character that marries the traditional power of Pommard with remarkable aromatic delicacy. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of black cherry, peony, sweet spices, and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is marked by a direct, focused entry, a dense and velvety texture, and exceptionally fine-grained tannins that support a long, saline, and persistent finish.
The 2023 Vintage
In the 2023 vintage, the Pézerolles cuvée strikes a remarkable balance between lusciousness and freshness. The 2023 growing season—characterized by excellent grape maturity—imparts a profile of ripe, bright, and vibrant fruit, while preserving the sharp minerality inherent to this vineyard. The tannins, which are exceptionally ripe and well-integrated, lend breadth and roundness to the palate, softening the austerity sometimes associated with young Pommard wines. While it will already be highly appealing after a few years in the cellar, thanks to its velvety texture, this 2023 possesses all the aging potential required to evolve gracefully over 10 to 15 years.
