NOTATION : 95/100 Robert Parker
Aging potential : 2018 - 2045
Tasted by Robert M. Parker, Jr. on May 30, 2016: "The 2006 Chateau Lafite Rothschild offers impressive fruit intensity on the nose, though it lacks the precision of the 2006 Mouton-Rothschild. Red fruits mingle with rose petals and underbrush scents - a very typical Lafite bouquet where less can be more. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and good acidity."
TERROIR
The 2006 Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. A colder and wetter winter than the last vintages, followed by a rather warm spring until July, allowed an early veraison and a good maturity. August was cooler but was followed by a sunny September - apart from a stormy spell in mid-September which accelerated the harvest.
SERVICE
Chateau Lafite Rothschild should be decanted 2 hours or more. It is best served between 16 and 18°C. This will allow the wine to soften and open up its flavor. For wines that have not been aged in barrels, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been aged in oak barrels.
