NOTATION : 98/100 Robert Parker - 95/100 James Suckling
Aging potential : 2017 - 2052
Tasted by Robert M. Parker, Jr. on May 2, 2011: "The 2008 Chateau Lafite Rothschild offers up aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar, and asphalt. Full-bodied, rich, and surprisingly concentrated, I don't think it's inferior to the 2010, just more classic, slightly more assertive, and a bit lower in alcohol (12.5% vs. 13.5%)."
TERROIR
The 2008 Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. After a real winter and its few spring frosts, the viticultural season was under scrutiny: not very productive flowering, permanent humidity favoring diseases, moderately hot summer. Fortunately, September was beautiful, which allowed us to wait for the grapes to reach full maturity, with a late harvest.
SERVICE
Chateau Lafite Rothschild should be decanted 2 hours or more. It is best served between 16 and 18°C. This will allow the wine to soften and open up its flavor. For wines that have not been aged in barrels, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been aged in oak barrels.
