NOTATION : 92-95/100 Robert Parker - 95/100 James Suckling
Aging potential : 2018 - 2038
Tasted by Robert M. Parker, Jr. on April 25, 2013: "The 2012 Lafite-Rothschild exhibits a classic style. It has an appealing elegance, medium body, and remarkable concentration, but it lacks the complexity, depth, or prodigious qualities of many other recent Lafites. It is a relatively sweet, spicy wine with notes of crushed rock, white chocolate, black currants, and graphite."
TERROIR
The 2012 Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot. 2012 was characterized by tricky weather conditions in Bordeaux.
After a relatively mild winter, rain and humidity dominated during the spring and especially in April when a hail storm was recorded (April 24). Such conditions made fertilization difficult and led to fears of lower yields. The work of the winegrowers was more than ever essential. June and July alternated between heat and humidity. From August onwards, we found a certain climatic stability which allowed the healthy grapes to perfect their maturity. Nevertheless, a certain heterogeneity of ripeness forced our teams to do a lot of sorting at the end of September.
SERVICE
Chateau Lafite Rothschild should be decanted 2 hours or more. It is best served between 16 and 18°C. This will allow the wine to soften and open up its flavor. For wines that have not been aged in barrels, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been aged in oak barrels.
