RATING: 93/100 Parker - 95/100 James Suckling
Aging potential : 2021 - 2041
Tasted by Lisa Perrotti-Brown on March 22, 2021: "It offers an open, perfumed nose of licorice, sandalwood, rose petals and cigar box over a core of Black Forest cake, stewed plums, blackberries and currant jelly, along with a hint of cast iron skillet. The elegant, medium-bodied palate (13% alcohol) is filled with intense layers of candied red and black fruits, framed by soft-textured, evolved tannins and a tightly knit freshness, and finishes long and spicy. This vintage lacks the power and backbone of an exceptional Latour vintage, but it is aging gracefully and, still possessing plenty of discernible fruit with plenty of tertiary vibrancy, is absolutely delicious to drink now. This stage of sweetness should continue for another 5-7 years, before the wine peaks in maturity and holds for another 15+ years."
TERROIR
The majority of Château Latour's vineyard is located on gravelly hilltops that overlook the Gironde estuary from 12 to 16 meters. The fortunate combination of "Gironde, layers of gravel on the surface and clay in depth" offers the terroir of Château Latour a singularity that few sites can boast.
The 2013 vintage is composed of 95.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.4% Merlot and 0.4% Petit Verdot.
SERVICE
Château Latour is served at a temperature of 15°C, in a red wine glass of the "Bordeaux" type. The ideal quantity is 15 cl. To control the temperature of the wine you can use a wine thermometer. Simply plunge it into a glass filled to 1/3 of the wine to be served.
FOOD AND WINE PAIRING
Château Latour can be served with aperitifs, starters, main courses or cheeses. It will accompany for example a nice piece of grilled beef but also mushrooms such as pancakes or truffled starters. For the cheese, prefer a cheese of character to counterbalance the tense perfumes of the nectar.
